I've just been prescribed this as a last resort by a doctor in my ongoing back/hip issue.

I'm researching it as much as I can and scouring the net as we speak, just trying to find out anybody here who has used it (legally of course  )

I once had some for flying cos I'm scared of the plane crashing. It's f-cking great, especially when accompanied by 4 pints of Guinness two hours before takeoff. Legal too, non-addictive.

Low doses of diazepam (2mg) can be useful if spasm is a significant component of back pain. At such low doses the sedative side-effects tend to be pretty minimal and if taken as a short course (a week or so) it shouldn't cause any withdrawal effects.

I don't have any personal experience of taking it, though...
  • Mrs Tank has some when she has to have any proper dental work done. I think she has about 10mg half an hour before she goes in for treatment, it's good stuff, I'd normally have to have a dozen pints of guiness to achieve a similar effect.

My autistic son also used to have it to help him calm down in stressful situations, but his dosage was 2mg.

    Hope this helps.

Cheers folks. I think it's only 2mg as well. It is mainly for the spasming problem I have at the moment.

I had 3 tablets as a 'pre med' in hospital..... Absolutely blinding stuff!!
Nurse brought me the medication and a surgical gown and gave instructions to swallow tablets and don gown.... Not exactly rocket science!...
I took tablets, then continued to watch TV for about 20 mins. Then I slid of the bed, in order to get changed  F**k, where's my legs gone!! I struggled like mad to get my PJ's off and the gown on, but there was no way I could co-ordinate tying the three knots behind my back... When the porters and nurse turned up I was almost p1ssing myself at the thought of how this must look.

  • In the ambulance service rectal diazepam is used to stop fits, however it can stop the patient from breathing if they get too much of it.

I was prescribed a course of 5mg diazapam for acute sciatic pain a few years ago. Due to being a big fella I was told to take 2 to start with.

Wonderful stuff, I have no recollection of an entire week. Apparently I was ringing friends randomly and talking incoherent bollox..........

Hmmm sounds like its going to be a weird week a la fear & loathing Las Vegas style.

I'm getting quite worried about taking it to be honest. All I want is one good nights sleep, a pain free day and the spasm's to stop but it sounds like I'll be a junky by the end of the week.

My old man used to have diazepam for his back to help him sleep, it wasn't strong enough so he's on morphine now.

Like you he was having back spasms but he's registered disabled so hopefully you won't need the smack just yet :D

I think it slows down your heart rate... So you could stop your heart by taking too much.

My doctor warned me about it being addictive. I would say its only addictive because it works, not because it spaces you out, once you get over that its fine.

Some of you guys sound as though you were high as a kite! Wish it had that affect with me!

I had it for a knackered back. 2 mg a day is a nice dose, just enough to give you a pleasant relaxed feeling and stop your muscles from spasming.

I also take it for flying, usually 10mg and glass or two of red wine. That's enough to stave off the panic and not worry about plummeting to the earth in a giant fireball. Lucky I had some with me when I knackered my back on a skiing holiday, otherwise I would never have been able to wedge myself into the aeroplane seat coming home for take-off and landing.
