What is the better frame??
7005 aluminium, 6061 Aluminium or Steel? This is for XC riding and not for massive drop offs or hard downhill riding etc.
7005 is lighter but why does steel appear on higher end HT models? What is the advantage of 6061 aluminium over 7005 other than being heavier & slightly stronger?
Your help is appreciated
Thanks

Constantly trying to upgrade my parts. It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.

Steel seems to be getting some bad press recently in terms of strength and reliability but I think a lot of it is related to the compensation culture we live in. Has anybody broken a steel HT?0

It would be pretty hard to break a steel frame through normal riding.Constantly trying to upgrade my parts. It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.0 -

Again depends on exactly how the frame is made. You need to try them really to appreciate any differences.
Spesh M4 and M5 are alu alloys with added alloying elements which increases strength.0 -
Thanks for the specialized info.
Yes thats true but i find that bike shops frown at letting you try a few different bikes & they never let you do anything more than ride on a flat 20m bit of car park.Constantly trying to upgrade my parts. It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.0 -
Have to try and find reader reviews as well.
Bike comfort has more to do with the saddle, tyres, grips and bars than the frame in most cases (for a hardtail).
Have a look at Brant Richards new frames - the Blue Pig, MmmBop and Ragley Ti. Three frames, all for similar usage, but in steel, aluminium and titanium.0
