I am 6ft 5 and ride a 65cm centre to top or 63cm centre to centre

depending on his inside leg measurements your prob looking at a 59cm or 60cm i would guess.

    I'm 6"1 and have always ridden a 58. I wouldn't have thought he'd need anything bigger.

TT length is more important to get right, easier to move the seat than have wild stems!

For the record, I'm 6'2" and top tube is 57cm with a 12cm stem.

    100m Yeah right.

Hi - I have just brought a new road bike and tried out quite a few. I am 6ft exactly and opted for a 56 size frame in the end (which suited my shape and size; long legs, shorter torso etc). I found myself over reaching on the 58's, which would potentially mean a lot of adjustment with saddle, stem etc.

Ideally he really needs to try as many different bikes as he can for size, as the tend to vary quite a bit between manufacturers. If he can do that he will get the best fit possible. FYI some of the better LBS's out there offer a fitting service which might be of use to him.

56 or 58 i reckon. Depends on the top tube length. I'm a touch under 6ft and ride a 58 but swapped the 100mm stem for an 80. Get him to try a few different sized bikes with different length TTs.

    I'm 6'2 and have a 60 and a 57, both with 120 stem. (Different makes)

So basically you really could do with trying it out.

    I'm 6 foot and I'd typically ride a 55 or 56cm TT witha 120mm stem.

    I'm 6'2.5 and ride a 58cm Specialized. I wouldn’t imagine that he'd need more than a 56, depends on the manufacturer though.
If I were him for sure I'd just pop in to my local bike shop and ask about getting measured, got to get the fit right for a comfy ride :D

I reckon your average 6 footer will be looking at maybe 56/57cm top tube - it does depend on proportions, frame geometry and prefence though so that's just a starting point. I'm just under 6'2 and ride a 57.5 top tube with either a 12 or 13cm stem.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.
  • 6'1" with a 33 inch inside leg, ride a 56cm top and seat tube with a 12cm stem for a low position and agile handling. As people have said, get your mate to try a few frames and see what is comfortable, i've ridden a 59cm top tube and been ok, but the handling was very different and not to my taste. With the amount of seatpost/stem adjustment available he could fit anything between a 56 and a 60cm seat tube I guess.
