I have just finished putting together a bike from a donor bike i had built some time ago with a crappy old steel frame.
I have managed to put it all together for around £400 using all new parts sourced from the internet.
The basics are a 2004 Merlin Malt frame, Exotic rigid alloy forks, Mac 1 wheels, Shimano acera drive with alivio shifters, deore V brakes and a mixture of Titech, Raceface and Easton finishing kit. I also managed to put a set of Kenda SB8's on for 40 quid. The wheels are heavy, so it weights bang on 28 lbs. It looks good and rides really nicely, although i have yet to try iy on the rough stuff
The Malt frame did seem to be a bit of a bargain at £99. This came with a Crane Creek headset, and a Easton seat post, plus a seat post clamp.

Good to see you've found room in the budget for a quality set of tyres Looks like a nice package for the money all round"Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0
