First road race, last lap, this guy takes out my front wheel and I hit the deck. I'm grazed but the bike is fine except one thing - the brake hoods have been pushed in slightly and I was wondering how you can get them to point forwards again.

  • hopefuly they've just moved round on the bar slightly, if they have all I did with mine was give it a sharp knock with the heel of my hand. Not very scientific but worked for me.

Unscrew them slightly. move them to the right place, then tighten them?

    Shimano gears ?

On the outside of the shifter, there's a groove moulded into the hard plastic which disappears under the rubber hood.

Stuff an allen key down it and you can loosen the band which attaches the shifter to the bars - it's a jubilee clip type of arrangement.

Loosen it a couple of turns (don't fully undo the allenbolt as it's a bit fiddly to get it back in again...) so that you can twist the shifter back where you want it again, then tighten back up.

    Simples !
