I read the Review of the Mavic Pave and wow they sound great.

I checked out the Mavic site and i really like the look of their jerseys too.

I have searched the web but there does not seem to be many reviews of Mavic bib shorts or jerseys so wanted to ask if anyone has tried them and what their thoughts are?

I had been thinking of getting Assos but I seem to have really fallen for the look of the Mavic stuff and their site is cool too.

I've bought a couple of Mavic Espoir jerseys recently. The sizing is a little different to Assos. They are a bit shorter in the body and generally a bit smaller across the shoulders, so worth bearing in mind.
They are my jersey of choice for warm days as they are very well ventilated under the arms and the shirt material is very lightweight and wicks well. I actually think it does a better job than the £100 Rapha lightweight jersey I got last year. Detailing is good i.e. full length good quality zip, silicone gripper on the hem, lined collar and zip cover. Also a zipped central pocket on the rear. I would buy some of their shorts, but they seem to have about six in the range, so I have no idea which ones to get.

Yes they do. I just love their site, their products while not cheap look like they are extremely good quality and yet there are so few reviews of them.

Not just the bibs and jerseys but their shoes too. Wow.

Yes this is another thing that appeals to me, they do look super light and if work as advertised then extremely well ventilated. Great for here in Asia.

APII - can I ask where you bought yours? Did you manage to try them on before buying?

They are expensive and I would love to be able to try them on to make sure I get the exact size which feels best.

    Anyone else wearing Mavic?

Like APIII I have an Espoir jersey, I really like the jersey, very comfortable and feels great on. I agree about the fit, I think they call it "race fit", I'm wondering if I should have gone for the size up now (thought it was OK when I first bought it), it still fits but is pretty tight.

I think you'd struggle to get a jersey of the same quality for the price and detail
http://www.cpcycles.com/products.php?plid=m15b0s54p1893 Cliff Pratt is where I got mine from, but you can get them from Evans too (link at bottom).

My only criticism is the tab that is supposed to hide the zip at the top is a little awkward for days when you want the jersey zipped up all the way.

I seem to have turned into a Mavic fan unintentionally, bought some Avenir shoes, Aksium wheels for my commuting bike and the jersey all within about 2 months and they are all pretty much top quality.

I bought one on holiday in France, then another when I got home from Chainreaction. For 40 quid, I think they're great value. I had a look at the more expensive ones in the shop, but felt they were a bit over-engineered (the material seemed a lot heavier), so I wouldn't necessarily assume more expensive is better in Mavic's case.
  • A few issues baki Cycling plus had a shorts review and the Mavics came up veery well.

Tried a pair on at evans the other day (Heliums I think), felt pretty comfy just standing about but in the end i got some Gore bibs as the feel of the material was that bit nicer.

The 3D pad in the more expensive shorts feels spot on with the touch test, unfortunately I haven't got the cash at the mo to try them properly.

Isn't mavic replacing the Nike clothing line?

I think they used to belong to the same group as Adidas, have since been sold and as a result have started making their own clothing. Not sure if this means that Adidas will stop making cycling gear for general sale (do they still provide the GB kit?).

Thanks everyone that has posted. I am really looking forward to getting my hands on some Mavics. I am going a bit Mavic nuts and will buy the gloves, socks, and a jersey, then go for the shorts, long distance pave bib shorts, perhaps even some shoes
. Not sure why as I am not what one would call brand loyal, apart from Oakley sunglasses, but something is really appealing to me with this Mavic brand.

I probably wont get the latter items until I have found a shop where I can try them on. Better to get the perfect size than risk being unhappy especially when some of their stuff is very pricey, and with me being quite a long way away.

How does the sizing compare to Rapha's? Rapha's mediums fit me quite well and I'm wondering if Mavic's will do the same?

    Cheers

I'm a large in Rapha, so I got a large Mavic. I thought it was a bit tight, so I bought an XL, but that is too big. I think the Mavic is just a 'racing cut' whereas Rapha is cut a bit looser. Like I said before, the Mavic is a little shorter in the body, only an inch or so, but if you have a long torso it's worth bearing in mind. So to answer your question, if your Rapha top isn't too snug a fit, the same size Mavic will be ok if you accept a slimmer cut.

    Cheers

Saw these in France last year and the jerseys, shorts and shoes all looked and felt awesome. I would definitely get them if i had the cash.

Do you know how the measurements varied from the L to XL? If you layed it flat how width and length changed? I'm 194cm, but I don't want to be swimming in a large, but length is usually an issue. I wish a local shop carried them so I could try them on first! :)

Thanks for your help in this APIII.

I've recently got a Mavic jersey can't remember which one, but it is nice and the material seems well vented. Nice details as well with the zipped key pocket, reflective highlights and zip cover. Only thing I would note is that the sleeves are loose on me (i am fairly skinny but not stick so) which I don't get on any of my other jerseys (Casetelli, Giordana, TAL etc.), so try before you buy if this is likely to be an issue. Appart from that they are a fairly close fit, which is good for aero but maybe not very flattering for some.

Afraid I can't compare with either Assos or Rapha.

Just checked them both. The zip length is actually the same on the L and XL at 54cm. The width armpit to armpit is 49cm on the large and 52cm on the XL. The zip on my Rapha jersey is 56.5cm. Hope that helps

This Mavic Apparel Size Chart might also be useful as it was quite difficult to find on their site.

Those measurements that APIII provide are very useful, the xip length does seem very short.

I had not noticed before but they do computers too. Pretty cool stuff but also pricey.

I had some Mavic PRO shoes and was disappointed with the quality and fit. Also people kept on asking if I had bought them in Morrisons because of the logo.

Perfect. Thanks APIII, I just ordered the medium, we'll see how it fits. :)

Hmmm, prices are comparable/slightly higher than Assos base level.

They had better make good kit!

I'll nip in to my LBS and have a look as they do both Assos and Mavic. The shorts would have to be sublime to be worth getting over the slightly cheaper Assos ones...

Will be interesting to read what you think NapD.

I tried to buy a pair of Mavic socks and gloves, mainly to test the online merchant before getting the more expensive items, only to find they have not heard of Hong Kong or China (my credit card is issued in HK).

Am now trying to prove I am not an alien.....

Why more shops do not accept Amex is beyond me.

I think they just have a bigger range, rather than just top end. The Espoir jersey is now £34 in Ribble. Like you though, the shorts are a bit of a punt, so I'll probably stick with what I know.

I've also had the Morrison's joke about my shoes - although it seems the M in the morrisons logo is now green.
