A mate wants some in either 44cm or 46cm - what would be a good budget buy?
I'm thinking anatomic/ergo, with a 31.8mm clamp, and less than say £40 really, if that's a reasonable amount to pay for a half-decent set.
CRC has the EA30 for £30 at 325g
and the EA50 for £36 at 240g (claimed)

Planet X Strada - I put them on my bike when I built it last winter.

I've gone to a set of FSA Omega compacts from a conventional sized set of drops and have to say they are excellent. They weigh approx 300g and cost about £25 (although I got mine with the bike).
As they are extremely compact then I now spend most of my time on the hoods.
There is a review of them in the 'Bikes & Gear' section of this site which gives a good review and I have to concur that the transition from top to drops is very good.

+ 1 for the FSA Omega Compacts - mine only cost £20 from Wiggle about 6 months ago - great bars for the price.0
