... My kitten has just peed on my gorgeous, realatively new, sofa. .

The cushion covers can be washed (though I'm reluctant to as they'll inevitably fade a little), but how do I get the smell of pee off the base and the cushions themselves so that she doesn't keep returning to the spot and reoffending? :?

Any ideas, please...?????

I wondered what that smell was on the way in this morning

You can get some odour neutraliser for dogs, which should work on cat's pee as well. There's also some deterrent spray for dogs that may/may not work with cats. I'll have a dig arround at home tonight and see if I've got any left, you're welcome to it, it never worked with my mutt.

Not sure about the furniture but when my cat did the same at home I sprayed a bit of lemon juice on the offended area of the carpet which was dark in colour.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Don't use anything with ammonia in it, it will make the smell worse, I have red white vinegar will neutralise the smell, try it on a patch not in view though just to make sure it doesnt do anything to the fabric, if its the cushion itself you should be fine.

Now you see this is why you shouldn't have cats. The best thing to do is rub the kitten's face in the smelly patch. Perhaps a bit late for this now, but if it re-offends then rub its face in while the pee is still moist. I know it sounds cruel and disgusting but it works!

Have they used it as a scratching post yet?

Ammonia produicts smell to a cat like another cat, and it will simply happen again.

Try a dilute bicarb of soda treatment. The problem will be of residue when it dries, though, so it might depend on the colour of sofa.

One of my cats has just gone through a phase of spraying everything that is waterproof. We don't go hiking much, but most recently donning the requisite waterproof garb was a bit of a suprise.

Also had my courier bag sprayed a few times.

And my base layers (left a drawer open).

It's probably a bit too late, but baby wipes were left on this earth by an angel. I now use them for everything, although for pee it probably needs to be wet.

Invest in them for the future!

Surely this thread title should be:

Just a bit of Wee off topic....

    I'll get me coat.

(as to stopping the peeing - well I always went for the old fashioned tap on the nose and raised voice, rubbing nose thing... If my cat does something wrong now, all it takes is shouting his name and he bolts  )

Does the kitten use the litter tray OK - all 3 of ours have been fine.

Deffo get scratching post and some 'cat nip' to spray on it - like drugs for cats....
