Is there such thing as a healthy Pizza?

Surely this is a "How long is a piece of string?" question.
Let's break this down: pizza is basically bread, tomato & cheese. Surely no-one is going to argue that a cheese & tomato sarnie is intrinsically 'bad for you'.
A wholemeal pizza, not overloaded with cheese but with peppers, onions etc. added on before cooking, would have to rank as pretty much the nutritionist's 'ideal'. Even a white flour base is fine if you have the right proportions of roughage and fatty stuff.
Depends on how much you exercise as well, of course: the high carbs in a pizza being what you need on a bike, and if it's tasty you're more likely to get them in you. Even a high salt content isn't a problem if you're sweating it out (the other week I went running and really craved crisps afterwards--probably because it was a hot day). Salt levels are higher than is really ideal for a sedentary person in most bought bread products anyway--it's not just a pizza problem.0 -
Did anyone notice that the salads on that menu have pretty similar caloric values to the pizzas!0

cheese - it seems it's probably ok in moderation, but can make you fat.

unfortunately, i can't digest cheese, and it can cause sinus problems too so i have to stay well clear from it.0 -

oh well  I least i know how many hours it will take to work off
NB Pizza Express' nice thin pizzas are a FAR lower calorie option than those fat soaked deep pan jobs from Domino etc.0 -
Actually i was resonably impressed with how not that bad for you they are - If you think (roughly) that you want to take a third of your 2000 (or 2500 if you are a bloke) calories from your evening meal - then 6-700 calories would be about right.
Of course - if you add a doughball starter and a beer (or even a pudding) then it all starts going down hill.blog: bellevedere0 -
Pizza express ones use alot less cheese as well ^, they're the only ones I have these days, usually when Sainsburies has them on offer. Some of the deep pan/ stuffed crust/ meat feast/ extra cheese ones you can get have 50+ grams of fat, most of which can be saturated, that's almost all your recommended calorie intake for the day in pure fat form .. nice.0
