Halfords cycle 2 work - frame only idea?

I've bought a Boardman Team Carbon on our last run of cycle 2 work, its coming round again and I was thinking...has anyone tried buying a £50 halfords special mtb or something and then ordering a frame as an accessory? Reason being I'd quite like a Ritchey Breakaway frame which splits in two for travel...
Failing that I'll have to save my pennies and maybe get an XACD ti roadframe with their S&S type couplings for just over £500 - anyone got experience of them? I've read mixed reports.

    ask at a few halfords,one of them will let you buy all most anything if you ask,it seems each halfords can please themselves what the rules are.

    It's been done but it's down to how fly your local Halfords dudes are.
