i'm planning a weekend trip at the end of September and looking for suggestions for an itinerary. looking for somewhere within approx 4 hours drive of Norfolk (not easy i know!) with the plan to drive down early Saturday, ride Saturday morning/afternoon and then camp (or cheap b+b) with the idea of riding Sunday morning with a view to leaving lunchtime. i ride a long travel hardtail and would consider myself to be reasonably fit with average at best technical skills. i have previously ridden the wmb routes in the lakes and nant yr arian without killing myself. all local advice/suggestions gladly received as this is my only chance of a weekend riding without the family for the rest of the year!!

Dalby Forest and North Yorks Moors? Just about at the limit of your 4 hour range - ish.

Probably only get a day out of Dalby Forest (it's about 25 miles all up) but plenty of trails onto the Moors near there. Never used any campsites in the area as I'm close enough to drive over for the day. I think High Rigg campsite in Dalby is supposed to be good. Local Farm site.

Stay away from the black then. Red is good. Some steps to drop down and the odd steep drop in. Plenty of great twisty singletrack with berms and pumps. You can drop out any time you want and head back to the car park as all the fire tracks hook up with the road. You won't be dissappointed. My GF made it round as a relative novice (albeit with much shrieking) but was grinning from ear to ear at the end.

just checking out travel times on sat nav and reckon dalby is just going to take too long to get to leaving riding time to a minimum. What about routes in the south downs area???used the link to nonnac85's site (good work!!) but just looking for some recommendations - even natural loops outside trail centre's? hoping to ride for up to 4 hours on saturday and then the same sunday :?
