more than one of those options.

    Flats, multi and single release.

  • Shimano Single release, they're what I started with and have never seen any reason to change. I also run the same on my roadbike.

    TIME > all IMO

    none clear mud better
    Bearings last
    loads of float

only downer is they are heavy compared to similar designs from CB and Look. CB ones though we've had too many blown bushings/bearings and look I tried and didn't like.

I do use flats aswell for DH-y stuff and even clips and straps for commuting!

Crank Bros, only cos they were silly cheap on ebay (new), I was about to ditch them after 2 sets failed (first set were replaced by Spec dealer, because you cannot fix the bearings) on my Stumpy FSR.
Quite why Crank Bros think that trying to get converts to their brand through offering shoddy equipment on complete bikes is a good business decision, is beyond me. I was a few clicks away from going back to SPDs.
The bearings on ebay purchased set have been fine for 6 months and are serviceable.

Crank Bros all the way :D

Light, dependable (well all my sets have been), servicable and never ever ever ever is mud an issue  And unless your cleats are worn you'll never pull out of them by accident

Crank Brothers. Sure you don't have the tension adjust that everynody on Shimanos raves about but the release is so good that it's not necessary. Hold you solid as a rock too.

Multi release SPDs, started with Crank Brothers but the bearings went very quickly so screw that.
  • Crank Brothers, fit and almost forget, no need to adjust, always work every time, no matter what the conditions.

    Love them.

the past couple of years I have had one bike with flats on and another with crank bro, but I have got back Into riding on flats so much the past couple of months that I have now taken the CB off and gone back to flats on both bikes :D
It's not a ornament, so ride It
  • Used to use Shimano single release all the time, I flirted with crank brother candy sl's last year and they were in my opinion, poop! I could never tell if I was clipped in pproperly, and once on a particularly muddy ride the spring retention just got clagged up, so one side of the pedal was stuck open for a 6 hour ride. I used two replacement bearing kits to try and keep them running smooth, to no avail. Apart from that they were ace. Back on XTR's now. Love 'em.

In my opinion Crank Bros kit look cool, and would probably work great down the road from where its design office is based.

Flats  DMR V8's have as much grip as I will ever need.

Never tried 'clip in' pedals... dont fancy falling over still attached to the bike while in the car park!!!

Time all the way for my dodgy knees I need all the float they can give me

Shimano they used to clog with mud something terrible I believe they are better now but I wouldnt go back

Crank Bros I have seen two of my mates struggle to keep them running I reckon one lad got a strip down and bearing replacement on his Candy's down to 10 minutes he had done it that often

Flats kill my knees because they dont have any float plus one slip and you shins are shredded. Though I do have a set for occasional trips to the local BMX track.

Flats so far - MG-1's plus a pair of FiveTens stick like s**t to a blanket :) . But will probably try clipless once my riding has come on a bit and I don't need to put my feet down as often on the tricky stuff.

SPD single release, Shimano M424's on my MTB and M520's on my roadie.

I realised last night that the creaking from my cranks was actually not enough spring tension, D'oh!
