Hi there,
New to the forums - hoping that anyone with a modicum of technical knowledge can help me before I go totally around the bend.
I bought a brand new 2009 Stumpie FSR Carbon pro last weekend, and so far Ive ridden it twice - for 20mins only.....why? - because it creaks and cracks like a total monster. Like a nightmare - like the worst maintained bike in the world, ever.
Ive returned it to my local bike shop once already, on the monday when they opened, complaining of the problem. They kept the bike till the friday, and I rode it for the 2nd time today. The problems appeared to have gone - but 10mins in, they returned:
Pedalling, not pedalling, in the saddle, out of the saddle - turning the bars from side to side, or riding in a straight line. - I cannot pinpoint where exactly the noise is coming from at all. Can anyone help or shed some light in any way shape or form? - Im pursuing the bikeshop to ensure that this goes away - but if I can help them on their way, Id like to, as this way Ill get my bike back - they way i want it - all the quicker.

Creaking can be due to a number of causes - and is eliminated by a process of elimantion ie removing/serving/cleaning/refitting parts. Sometimes they are completely benign and is due to natural flex in a component.
Park tools has a good step by step guide on diagnosing noises which I also believe is in our FAQs.0 -
I have a similar intermitant creak from my 08 Stumpy FSR, it's generally when putting power down into teh cranks.
I had two problems, the pedals needed greasing and the rocker for the rear suss needed some lubricant.
Give that you have bought a £2.5K bike I'd expect your biek shop to be keen to resolve it.0 -
Stumpies are prone to creaking, usually means the bearings need servicing. Wouldn't be happy with it on a brand new bike though, back to the shop again I think. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0
