Which bike for a 3 year old without breaking the bank?

He'll only be using it for going up and down the driveway and a bit on the street.

Many thanks in advance.

    Runbike/Balance Bike.

Pick your brand to suit your budget.

Teaches them balance, and steering. They can scoot pretty quickly too, once they gain their confidence. The transition to pedals takes, literally, minutes - but that's the NEXT bike eh?
    Commute - MASI Souville3 | Road/CX - MASI Speciale CX | Family - 80s ugly | Utility - Cargobike
  • An alternative is to go down the more traditional bike plus stabilisers route and get them off when you both feel comfortable about it. My son had a Ridgeback MX14 for his 3rd birthday with stabilisers which he has just outgrown after 2 years (and riding for the past 6 months without them).

Whatever you decide, one last suggestion is to check out the Sheldon Brown website, which along with a lot of funny stuff, has some good advice about teaching kids to ride.

    All the best,
