Current Campagnolo warranty claim turnaround times

Hello,

Does anyone know what the current typical turn-around time is for a Campagnolo warranty claim?

I've had two items (2008 Centaur RH shifter, 2009 carbon Centaur chainset) in for a claim through the respective retailers since 23rd June, so 6 weeks so far, and nothing yet. I've tried emailing the warranty centre, to no avail.

Is this typical? How long should I expect to wait before the claims are settled one way or another?

Thanks.

    Hi,

No doubt someone with more knowledge will correct or validate me but as far as I am aware your contract is with your supplier, not Campagnolo.
The excuse you will be given is that Italy pretty much shuts down for the whole of July.
If you are unhappy (very understandable) with the turnaround you should complain to the supplier. You have a lot of strong EU rights on this.

Maybe someone can chime in with the actual rights :?:
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.
  • To be honest I'm not terribly unhappy. The parts are for my best bike and July has hardly been best bike weather... Plus my wife will be giving birth in a few days, so it's no big deal really. I'm just looking to set and manage my expectations.

    Hi again,

Try asking this week as the July shutdown should be over and Campag should be able to provide some kind of answer.

You are way more patient than me but I can see how you are consoling yourself.

    Congrats, by the way :P

  • Hi Tom

Graeme from Velotech Cycling Ltd - we look after UK Campag warranty on their behalf, although we are not part of Campag. Yes, I know, it's an odd-seeming arrangement but that's how it's done ...

We are pretty full on at the moment as we look after paid-for servicing on Campag as well as Campag -specific and specialist / general training for retailers etc. and ditto the public - plus some other things attached to cycle mechanics & event support. We are a technician down just now, which isn't helping much, either, at peak season.

Normally warranties can be turned around reasonably quickly so long as we have all the documentation etc., although we are dependant oftentimes on Italy having stock - as I say, we aren't part of Campag and although we keep EUR15,000 or so in stock in spares at any one time, that's mostly small Ergopower parts and the like, rather than groupset components.

If you can tell me which retailer sent the parts back to us, I may be able to give you more info on your claim, as we log them by the returning retailer (where they come back through a shop).

Give me a buzz on 07533 129 435 or drop me an email to velotechcycling@aim.com

Wouldn't it be quicker to get these parts repaired yourself? Mercian cycles are Campag repair specialists. Just a thought.
  • My Centaur left gear shifter snapped in two when I changed upon to the big ring a couple of weeks ago. At the various LBS's I spoke to, I got a lot of blank looks and comments that it can take two or three months for a warranty claim, and as my bike was two years old, it might not be successful anyway.
It's my only bike, and that is a long time to be stuck in the small ring, so I followed the advice of the LBS I got the bike from: bought replacement ergos online (c.£115), got the LBS to swap the left one (£35) and the LBS will send the broken one off (presumably to Velotech) to see what the story is.
Don't know what will happen if the warranty claim is successful - cash compensation or replacement. I don't really have much use for a spare pair of ergo levers... At least I got some cool new bar tape out of the incident (had to pay for that though - another £12).
  • Hello Giant mancp,

I tried the Mercian route already, but they say they can't repair those particular 2008 shifters and recommended to return them to campagnolo.

Hi Graeme, I can't tell you how pleased I am to see you have posted here. I had really given up all hope of ever seeing my three-week old Campag Record ergo lever. I have sent you an email. Hopefully it can be sorted. I think you've had it for about three months. Sent by Westbrook Cycles of Middlesbrough.
  • Hello all,

Graeme has been first class in sorting this out - it turns out that the delay was basically down to the two retailers involved and nothing to do with velotech.

    Cheers Graeme!

Finger crossed he can do the same for me

  • Well, I left a message and Graeme rang me back within minutes. He couldn't have been more helpful. Really nice bloke. My ergo had been sent to York where there have been a few problems and had been separated from the paperwork. Graeme promised to look into it but then I rang my LBS to discover it was back with them. Thanks again Grame.
