Hi all,

Apologies if this has been a subject before, but cannot find anything on the search.

i'm after a decent pair of either bib shorts or shorts for a couple of sportives I have coming up (Manc 100 - will be my first and the Tour of the Peak - like a challenge!)

I recently did 50 miles in a not too expensive pair of Gore Contest shorts and found myself slightly uncomfortable after about 35 miles.

Any recommendations for a decent good fitting pair, say a maximum of £100

Thanks in advance

My Santini Ice shorts have been great on a couple of century rides. At £60 you'll have some change left too!

Prendas Ciclismo http://www.prendas.co.uk/default.asp have a good range of Santini bib shorts. I've just picked some up and they're excellent! Well recommended! 8)

  • I found a pair of triban ones from decathlon (£54) work just as well as a pair of my £100 ones from my LBS. They have a good gel padding and put in some chamois creme and it's never let me down on 90+ mile rides. very comfortable, only they are white which is not to everyones taste.

Make that a 3rd for Prenda's and Santini , top quality shorts , not Assos quality and comfort but for the price you wouldn't expect them to be.

45 quid well spent tho and Prenda's service is second to none.

I got the Giordana Bodyline shorts from parkers for £35. They are 2007 model and reduced from ~£70. Have been great.

If you're getting uncomfortable after 35 miles then I suspect it's not just the shorts that are the problem. Have a think about your position, saddle, and pedalling style.

To illustrate, I do rides of up to 60 miles in my Endura winter tights and they have no chammy, and I've done rides of 100+ in 'basic' shorts like yours.

    Cheers for your input folks

I'm going to order myself a pair of Santini's from Prendas (Santini - Top £45) and hope they live up to the recommendations!

Maddog 2 - I don't feel any other discomfort other than a bit of saddle sore. I will try the new bib shorts and play around with the saddle height just to make sure.

    Cheers

Maybe also try some chamois cream for the longer rides (if you don't already?).
