I am considering buying a perfecta as I can have frame made to measure rather than off the peg for almost same price as buying a standard frame size. Does anyone know any other bike manufacturers or frame builders who do this within the yorkshire area particularly or wider afield. Also I want to use the bike for cyclosportives and club rides any suggestions on wheels and bars. I plan to go for a campag groupset but any other ideas suggestions on componants generally will be appreciated.javascript:emoticon('8)')

They're aren't many frame builders around the world who build carbon frames made to measure - so you're a bit limited. If you want a made to measure frame a bit closer to home then you'll need to look at other frame materials. The beauty of made to measure is that they can build the angles to produce a more relaxed ride if you're looking at Cyclosportives.

However as an owner of a made to measure Viner I would say stick to your choice, you won't be disappointed :) Good choice on Campag too. Are you looking at going to 11 speed?

If you live in Yorkshire then the only shop who deal with Viner is Triangle in Leeds. Adam will measure you up etc for the build.

There are quite a few custom frame builders out there...Parlee, Guru, Baum, Hillbrick to name but a few.

Why limit your choice by concentrating on suppliers close to home. Cyclefit in London are now looking after Guru bikes in the UK and there are a number of operators who look after Parlee - they both are quite expensive, the latter being off the radar for most but I've never seen anything but huge praise for Parlee.

Groupset - you cant go wrong with Campag, thought I'd go with the tried and tested Sram Red instead. Wheels - any number of options, Zipp 303's or 404's are always going to be the choice for most but I do like the new S40 from Sram, and it wont cost you an arm and a leg.

    Just my thoughts...

Talk to the guys in Racescene in Barnsley - Deda do a carbon tube and lug set specifically designed for custom carbon. A clubmate has a custom Viner Maxima and he really likes it - he has a neck problem and was able to get a slightly longer headtube whilst retaining a racier geometry - he went to Italy for a factory fit. There's also Bertoletti in Italy - no UK dealers at the moment, but quality it top notch.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

There are loads of custom frame builders out there - in fact there are a few in Yorkshire but the OP said he was after carbon. Parlee do have a great reputation, so do other US custom frame builders, Serotta, Independent Fabrication for instance. But I do have it on good authority that the guys from Parlee were enquiring on the Viner stand at a cycle show, how they hand make the carbon lugs on the Viner Maxima. They didn't think it could be done.

BTW I didn't know Baum made carbon frames?

Nope as far as I know Baum dont but I didn't read the OP as wanting a carbon frame - maybe that was implied from his Perfecta suggestion.

Sorry you're right - I've only assumed he wanted a carbon made to measure. And we know what happens if you assume
Baum's are very nice - would be great to go to Aus and get measured up.

If he is open to other frame materials then he's got some great choices - 953 from Bob Jacksons in Leeds?

Good call but I suspect you are right. The OP is likely to want a nice carbon steed!

Get on that plane for that fit, the winter sun is shining and a nice 25 degrees today. If the locals could only play cricket then all would be great in the land down under...
  • thanks guys lots of food for thought! i will look into the various other suggestions re frames etc. i do want carbon by the way! I had considered going to see racescene and will follow that up; also I like the idea of going to Italy for a fitting and will try to contact Viner but may eat into my budget!! Have spoken to Adam at Triangle and he seems to know his stuff so that does not seem to be a bad option if can't get to Italy. Any other suggestions especially on wheels bars and seats especially! always greatly appreciated. Happy pedalling!

I'd save your money on the trip to Italy and put it towards better wheels and groupset :)

Adam will do a good job of measuring you - Viner then come up with the perfect frame measurement and angles for you
