Panet X Bikes - anyone actually been there?

A couple of weeks ago, I wandered in here looking for some advice about getting a new bike. Started looking at MTBs around £500, then moved to road bikes around the same price, then kept moving up the range untill I am now looking at possibly getting a Planet X carbon bike for £1000 (the Race2work spec, but I'm hoping they can do a set up with SRAM Rival bits...)! Damn you all! .
Anyway, I am up in Leeds next week visiting relatives, and I was thinking of trying to make an appointment to visit them to get sized up for a frame. So, has anyone actually been there to see them in person? Just wondering what they are like to deal with, and what's their set up like?

If they are still in the same location they were a year ago (I've just looked at the their address on the web and it is) then it is basically a warehouse in the middle of an industrial estate! Unless they have made some changes since then it is very much a working environment. I took may new Pro Carbon to habe a probablem looked at and essentially I was in a working evrivonment - shelving and workshop areas where bikes were being assembled. Very much a fit for purpose no frills environment.
Having said that, everyone there was very friendly and there is plenty of space on the estate and surrounding areas to do test rides. Just don't expect anything fancy. In a way it's nice to know that costs are being kept down to deliver the keen prices for the fantastic products they sell!

I went last Monday. I'd arranged it a couple of days in advance. They let me try a bike on the turbo trainer. There must have been ten or so different bikes (sizes and models) that you could try. We then took one out on the road and had a blast up and down.
As previous poster said it is a working environment, not a retail outlet, but they couldn't have been more helpful and I got all the info etc that I needed whilst I was there.
I ended up ordering the Carbon SL Road with Dura Ace kit on. I could have taken it there and then but I'm getting them to build it so it's coming this week. Can't wait!!!0 -
Yes, agree with all the above. It's a warehouse, don't expect a sophisticated retail experience!
But very friendly chaps, couldn't do enough to help me regarding selecting the right sized frame. Highly recommended bikes & service (I've since bought a 2nd bike from them)0 -
Give them a phonecall first to make sure they know you're thinking of calling by0

feel free to come round we like to have customers come see us , if you came in the morning we could probably build the bike on the spot
weve actually just signed the contract for a new spangly lovely unit thats also going to have a cutting edge 1200 sq foot showroom/shop and a prolevel bike fit / test centre , its going to be just of jnct 34 of the M1 right next to Magna
We cant wait to move to new premises as weve completely outgrown our current set up which is , as previously said , somewhat industrial but has actualy served us well to date , but its time for us to step it up a gear .0 -
Dave,
Thanks . I actually popped down last week, on Tuesday to have a quick look. I spoke to a very helpful chap called Dion who got me sized up pretty well. I'm still evaluating my option for which bike to get, especially now you have the SL Carbon frame available with the SRAM Rival set! It was useful to see the colours too - it confirmed my personal opinion that the blue looks better than the black. Not sure about that pink though...
Wish you guys luck at the new site!
