OK

Another one:

According to rumour, a regular cycle commuter is supposed to to get rained on 12 times in an average year.

Starting next week I will record in this thread the number of times I get rained on.

Does a morning and an evening rain count as one or two, does anyone know?

Any other takers for this?

Jim

When I started commuting into town by bus I reckoned I barely got past 6 times getting rained on (though that only included time spent between location and bus stop and waiting. This year things have been rather damper. However, there will be much variance - those in East Anglian much less than 12 times and those in Lancashire every day

Oh, Yes I live in the Peak district and commmute into Manchester (Stockport)...

    Renowned for being arid semi-desert:

I also have a 25-mile round trip which adds time, so must increase my chances of getting wet.

Where do you live? East Anglia?

Sadly I have already started recording this type of information since beginning my commuting life 14 months ago. I have a 30 minute trip each way, and have been rained on 4 times so far out of 326 trips. I have had no punctures, no close overtakes and no offs which isn't too bad either!! :D

I don't log it but in the 2 weeks before I was struck down by piggy flu I got wet 6 days out of 10.

12 would be a very conservative estimate.

missed the rain on the way in

got wet on the way home, was lucky as it tipped down until 1715 hrs so left then and was only affected by light drizzle, road spray from passing HGV's and wet dirt thrown up from the trailway

OK, anyone else get woken up by the biblical downpour this morning (5am-ish)? The carpet by the window was soaked!

But my ride in this morning was a lovely temperature and surface water was the only issue :)

  • This week: Soaked 4 times

    Last week. Soaked 6 times

So that 12 times a year stat is a bag of arse.

It didn't rain yesterday or today and it was quite a novelty not to have to dry my kit.
