V-brake adaptor for 26" - 700c?

I'm about to start building my 700c hybrid-based Xtracycle conversion and need help with one small issue. The frame is for a 26" MTB wheel, but I can fit my 700c wheel in with a small-ish tyre, but I need to adapt the V-brake posts. Obviously the V-brake posts are in the correct place for a 26" rim and consequently the wrong position for a 700c rim. I need an adaptor to move the posts further out. I am aware Xtracycle supply this adaptor but it's expensive and even more so once I've shipped from the US. Is there a similar adaptor over here in the UK?

Or another option?...

DMR do a plate for a frame without V mounts that bolts into the hole in the brakebridge asssuming you have a brakebridge with a hole in it. Saw one for sale recently, either here or Ebay.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • No brake bridge...

You want a pair of these: http://www.paulcomp.com/motobmx.html

The pad placement is adjustable so you can use them with 26" and 700c wheels. Note, though, that with 700c wheels you'll need to use normal road brake levers, not flat bar v-brake levers (though you could use something like cross levers), and with 26" wheels you need to use normal mountain bike levers (though Cane Creek do a road bike brake lever (non-STI) that can be used with v-brakes). This is due to the difference in leverage with the different pad placements.

You can't get them over here, but a second-hand pair pop up on eBay in the US every now and again. They're not wildly cheap though...

You are right. Chain Reaction have them for only £23.99 with free delivery!!

Seriously though, if that is all that's stopping the OP from using his Xtracycle conversion then it is worth it...
The Xtracycle one is $39 btw.
  • Thanks for the help guys. I've just ordered one from Chain Reaction, (after my LBS let me down :( ).

    Thanks again.
