Shimano Nexus 8-speed hub - trigger shifter?

My freshly delivered Specialised hybrid bike has a great Nexus 8-speed hub, I like it. However, the twist-grip shifter is not at all to my liking and I'd like to replace it with an 8-speed trigger shifter. Is there one which is compatible?

Is Alfine the new Nexave? I was told you could use any shifter with Nexave.
