I did the conversion using the 12mm dropouts and hope pro 2`s. Initially I bought a through axle from ebay, however it was solid steel and weighed a tonne so began searching for an aluminium one.

They are a pain to get hold of. In the end I rang Leisure Lakes in Preston and asked if they could supply an aluminium 135mm 12mm axle they said they they could. It cost about £11 andweighs about 70g.

Here is the thread on the commie owners club, i still have the 24/7 axle and could send it to you if you want it:

i got a fire excellrent hub on the heckler that has a 10mm through axel...
it stiffened the back end up so much...

not sure if you can get the axel on it's own though.

The spare dropouts that came with your frame are for a 12mm axle.

does not matter. as you can use the current Qr drop outs with a throu axle if you really want to.

Yeah, it`s called a maxle and costs £80 and then £40 if/ every time you break your mech hanger

The black one I got from Leisure Lakes has an allan key fitment on it which i have on my alien 2 so no need for extra spanner.

aint the otherside a bolt though?
  • The DT RWS through axles are very convenient. Much better than QR, but not as good as proper bolts. Quite expensive as well.

It does the job, it`s not too bad but is nowhere near a nice as a Maxle or DT RWS.

looks like my kids bike axle

but im surr your meta doesnt flex as much as mine.

i see what yr saying about fashion over function but i do like the dt rws, but cant find any reviews of anyone who has one. plus there out of stock!

You pays your money you takes your choice.

I had intended upgrading to the maxle, but I can`t justify it. At least not until the replacement mech hangers become available for a reasonable price. I also don`t thing the maxle will be as stiff as the bolt.

Don`t see the point of a 10mm axle with the QR dropouts though.
