Josh - dont know how stiff it is compared to your bike - but just check out the power of the Planet X guys who are riding it. I would say the answer is - its plenty stiff enough.

On the Planet-X website they've just announced they're going to be doing SRAM Rival and Red from next week too - which is an interesting and welcome development.

  • Oh god, theyre doing a dura ace model now......

SO now its either this, a Ribble Sportive or a trek Madone 4.5.

    And my budget is £1800.
    Must go faster.

Just got my Planet X SL Pro Carbon Ultegra Build with Ultralight CNC brakes (Titanium) a couple of weeks ago through the "Cycle to Work Scheme". So far I am well chuffed!

I went for the White, actually a lovely "Pearl White" which the average photo does not pick up or do justice. The finish of the frame is excellent as too are the rest of the components which builds up to just over 17lbs, excellent! I opted for the self-bulid, which is literally put all the seperate components together yourself, so only attempt if you really are experienced and competent at bike building. There were one or two head scratching moments, like fitting the FSA crank correctly, the headset race (a pig to do), setting the front derailleur correctly to prevent the chain dropping off under load and going up hills. All these issues are solved through experience, google and helpful advice from the Planet X customer service. My bike runs very sweetly and a joy to ride. Actually, I still can't believe how silky smooth it really does go and manages to iron out some pretty rough Cornish roads. Apart from comfort it is also very responsive, quick of the mark and gets up hills like a mountain goat.

I had originally pondered for weeks about commiting to a Planet X but now have no regrets. One of the big issues for me was the sizing. I am a border line 5'8" depending whether I measure in bare feet or cycling shoes and 31.5" inseam. I eventually took a chance and went for the "medium" and far as I am concerned it is a good fit.

When comparing to other bikes, well its not just another Specialized (Generalized). I borrowed a Specialized Roubaix Elite for the recent Dartmoor Classic. Lovely bike, highly regarded by many and the press but you know, hand on heart, I really do think my Planet X is better, being more responsive, even more comfortable and just as well equipped. I also ride a Giant XTC carbon for XC racing, very light and fast, in addition to a Cove Hustler for fun and bigger stuff.

So, the bottom line is, I would personnaly recommend a Planet X SL Pro Carbon to anyone who whishes to buy a light, well equiped, quality road bike for much less than similar bikes produced by others.

Another vote for the Planet-X SL Pro Carbon. Great value and excellent to ride. However, I think I will buy me next carbon framed bike with a more horzontal top tube. I suppose I am more traditional and prefer this option rather than one with a steep slope. My suggestion: buy the frame, shop around for good prices on all the other bits needed and make sure you buy a good set of wheels. Good luck.

Carbon bike should ALWAYS be black  The carbon weave is why we got them in the first place 8)

Weave is largely a needlessly added extra weight.

    What ???? It's made from weave .... it's not a UD frame !
.. who said that, internet forum people ?
