Waterproof 3/4 lengths, lycra short sleeve and a gilet.

Layering is always yoru friend so you can change as the weather does...

I think trousers in general are a bad idea and they're even worse on a bike. Regular or 3/4 baggies with knee pads/warmers and crew-length socks will keep the fashion police away all through winter.

You are allowed to wear full-length bib tights but only during the hours of darkness.

That's like saying i want a door for my car that doesn't meet the roof, because I once had the wind blow it shut when I was getting in, and I had my head squished between, well, the door and the roof.

3/4s base layer may be a jumper if required if not carry one in pack and a event waterproof jacket.

Because I'm remarkably hardcore, I just wear my regular shorts, pair of sealskins, my kneepads (they double as warmers), regular kit up top with either my lovely cheap tesco fleece or a waterproof (or both). Does the job... The shorts do get wet in rain of course but I have a considerable acreage of mudguards which helps a lot. Oh, and the inevitable buff of course- don't underestimate the awesomeness of the Polar Buff.

Normally I just wear my shorts along with knee pads, seal skinz socks, t shirt and if its raining I have a waterproof jacket in my bag. I find i get too hot really easy even in winter.

3/4 length shorts, leg warmers and Sealskinz. The leg warmers stop water running into the top of the Sealskinz and really do keep you toasty. A base layer and Pace eVent jacket. You'll arrive back just as dry as you left.
