Wonder if anyone from said bike shop is reading this post

Think they will be impressed with how eager you are to learn and get the job :D

if you have the basic skills for the job such as sales experience or time in a customer facing role you will be halfway there. They wont expect you to know everything, but if you appear enthusiastic and eager to learn you should be in with a chance.

Dont worry about minor details like turning up on your bike, or fitting your new pedals as it wont make a bit of difference. Just turn up 5-10 mins before your appointment and smile.

Good luck with the interview! (I would love a job in a bike shop myself)

Its amazing what you learn in a short period of time, so as long as you show willing to learn to back up your current knowledge and that you can sell something fairly well then you have a decent chance. As someone had mentioned earlier, its always good to have a member of staff who is female, sometimes it feels a little uncomfortable helping women with fitting saddles and undershorts. Maybe thats just me but its difficult to remain well mannered without saying the wrong thing

but yeah, at least they can be sure im keen lol!

yeah, arriving in plenty of time, on my bike with a big smile on my face, if only a nervous one lol! casual cycle clothes :)

thats what ive been thinking... im sure other females would rather a female help them out, i know i would, though i have never seen any women in my LBS! Would definately be a good idea for a woman to work there from my point of view! lol!

I did just that, rolled up on my Orange 5, had an informal chat with the boss & started work the next week.

Ok I had been fettling with bikes for about 15 years, but the bike did make a positive impression on the boss.

Specialized are a decent brand, so no worries about rolling up on it, now if it was an ASDA bike, different matter ;)

If you're not sure don't try to bluff too much, have you had a look at the park tool website? It gives step by step maintenance guides to bike parts, even just getting the gist of some of it will help.

and i will take a look tomorrow when im more awake to take things in. Im not bad with bike parts... its just what to do with them lol!

and i dont know if i need to know why some products are better than others or whatever, because im not too "up" on that if you know what i mean? I just know what i like, and havent really bought much else lol!

Its good to know what's better than the other, you don't want to give out bad advice. The thing that gets me is roadie groupsets, i know that something like dura ace is better than like sora but i have no idea at all *cough* someone who knows where i can find a list of them help me out here  *cough*

Lil ol' me getting confused again! lol! What order?
  • Pete-C

the order of shimano's roadie groupsets. When a customer asks why they are paying an extra £500 for a bike its often the gears/chainsets etc. that make up alot of it

Groupset (Shimano) hierarchy, from top to bottom of range.

    Road:

    Dura Ace
    Ultegra
    105
    Tiagra
    Sora
    2200

With Dura Ace Di2 electronic shifting and a Ultegra SL group

    MTB:

    XTR
    XT
    SLX
    Deore
    Alivio
    Acera X
    Altus
    Tourney

With Saint being a freeride/DH groupset, Yumeya beina an add on for XTR, Deore LX now a touring group, and Hone, the all mountain group, discontinued.
