Hi guys,
Am after a hardtrail bike and have a budget of upto £400. I have seen a few bikes and have listed them below, but am not sure which to opt for.
Specialized Hardrock sport disc 2010 at £399.99
Ridgeback MX5 2009 at £389.99
GT Avalanche 3.0 Disc 2009 at £349.99
GT Agressor XC3 2009 at £349.99
Any guidance on these bikes would be much appreciated. Or if there are any other bikes in this range that I should look at please let me know.
I will be doing a mix of road and off road/trails but cannot afford two bikes so need one that can do a bit of both.
thanks
Dan

All a very similar in spec - if you can stretch to the Agressor XC2 or Avalanche 2.0 you get a real step up in performance.0

Thanks for the help Supersonic. You have got me thinking now about the GT Agressor XC 2 from halfords which with quidco cashback of 6% would only cost £423.
I have also noticed that halfords are doing good deals on carrera bikes with the Kraken 09 at £379.99 and Fury 08 at £479.99. I can't push the budget to the 09 Fury. What do people think of these? Links below:

My budget keeps on creeping up and I just can't decide!!

The Fury, Kraken and Aggressor are all a step up from the original list as have decent damped forks and better componentry. Fury is a superb bike.0

If you can stretch to the Fury, try it for sure, it's the best bike in the price range by a country mile for rough and tumble riding.
Put it this way, I bought a Kraken and it was alright- very good bike for the money. But soon, I was changing parts, and upgrading the fork, and then I replaced the whole bike. If I'd got a Fury there's a good chance I'd still be riding it.Uncompromising extremist0 -
Which would you say is the best bike out of these two?

IMO the gt ... although your pushing £500 there which is the price of a carrera fury ... you get loads for what you pay ! best bet really0 -
I got an AM Fury 09 but there was something about it that I just didn't like, though I can really place what it was.
I took it back and swapped it for an Aggressor XC 3 (which had 20% off at the time) and I've been much happier with the GT.Canyon Spectral AL 9.0 EX
