Hey

I am buying a bench jacket as its only 25.00 as its alot thinner and shower proof the lady said in the shops.

But seen a sweet oakly one, but its only water resistant.

I will be using to thrash and travel to work.

Wil this do, cant find any cheap decent nice looking jackets for under 30.00

Thans guys.

This is £25.00= http://www.hardcloud.com/product/bmka0808cca.asp

That doesn't sound very water resistant to me! But for under £30 you might struggle. You could find something waterproof, maybe one of those pac-a-mac type things from Millets, but they won't be breathable, so not very comfortable for riding in.

The millets £20 pac-a-mac one is great but when i tried it on it just wasn't breathable enough, it's boil in the bag. You couldn't do any prolonged cycling in it unless it was a cold day, it's really light though and waterproof, I liked it. For a short burst or downpour cycling over relatively flat-ish land it'd be great.

I came to the conclusion though that I needed to pay the extra to get what I needed because I live in the hills (so I'm exerting most of the time) and downpours and bursts can last hours (days weeks months years...) So went for the Altura Nevis at Merlin, expecting it to arrive any time now.

Shop assistants will tell you anything. Showerproof/water resistant are meaningless descriptions.

You could do worse than an Endura Laser. I got one last year for £30 - it's waterproof and the simple construction makes it very breathable. The Laser II may be a little lairy for some tastes but if you look around you may be able to pick up a Laser I for a bargain price.

Alternatively the multisports section in your nearest TK Maxx will have a good selection of waterproofs.

I have 2 Decathlon jackets, their normal one (about 20 quid) and their breathable fabric one (about 60 quid). The normal one is lighter and packs smaller and while the material is not breathable it has pretty good venting, especially if you don't wear a camelback/rucksack. The breatahble (novadry) one is definitely better made and is more waterproof but the normal one does the job, frankly.

as far as showerproof is concerned, I generally get away with a showerproof windstopper for commuting as I have full mudguards. I tend to carry the proper waterproof for the odd occasion where it's raining hard enough to warrant it as, whether it's the breatable one or not, I find that they can't keep up with the sweat I put out....

Mostly though, I manage with a showerproof jacket, and they tend to breath much better

Montane Featherlite is great imo. It is only showerproof really but it normally keeps the worst off and dries very quickly.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the response.

I might have a look in TK maxx.

I wish I could afford gore tex, but TBH its only for thrashing and travel.

Will have a look in my lunch.

    Nice one guys

I wanted the altura night vision jacket from merlin, that looks nice, but not sure about sizing and its a bit more than I wanted to spend, also want a lose jacket, as dont like tight things.

    Thanks again

to be honest i've never found any jacket to be very breathable - obviously it depends how hard you're working and how much you sweat.

    Thanks guys.

Went to town on my lunch and got a jacket from timberland.

Its waterproof and has a breathable mesh inside, and its quite thin.

Was 100.00 got it for 39.00, not bad.

    Thanks again guys

found a brilliant karrimor jacket in sports diorect for about 20 quid, meant to be worth a lot more, properly sealed pockets and zips e.t.c and mesh lining, also nice and breathable, well waterproofed as well, water just rolls off the jacket so you can wipe it off and its dry on the outside again because it doesn't absorb any of the water, not sure how it will withstand long showers though

Is that the Karrimor Hi-viz Running Jacket? I saw that in Sports Direct yesterday (£14.99 reduced from £44.99) but was put off by there being no waterproof or windproof guide on the label.
