Hi all,
Cleaning my chain regularly, just wondered what the thoughts are re the chain cleaner gizmo's such as the park tools http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Park_Tools_CM5_Chain_Cleaner/4000000655/ they seem to love it in the reviews on the wiggle site?
I currently spray wd40, wipe and run chain through cloth, and repeat till clean and shiny... but this doesn't get every bit of grit out of chain...
Your thoughts would be appreciated before I shell out...

I got the Halfords chain cleaner and it works really well. It makes cleaning the chain almost enjoyable!! Rather than continually putting the job off just a few minutes back pedalling and all is clean.0

Well, you could look at it as Wiggle would love it, they sell it. I'm sure it works, as do most of them. But is cleaning your chain with one of these a good idea? KMC's website advises against it. I fact they say never use one. They feel, apparently, that those things remove too much lube. Leaving you with a "dry" chain, down deep, where lube really counts. I go along with that theory. Once my chain is on the bike it doesn't come off until time to replace. I have never used a cleaner like you talk about. 5 minutes with a clean rag
while spinning the crank backwards. Until the rag starts to come away fairly clean. Liberally(lots)coat with wax type lube, wipe excess off, ride. Repeat once a week or so.
Anyway that's my theory FWIW. No problems.0
