so, made it through my first day with SPDs yesterday, 25km without incident (yes i think in km, mostly due to my first bike computer as a teenager only working in km) but today, about 10k in, i came to the mammoth hill which is always my nemesis. i normally get up some momentum and grind up this hill as far as i can make it and then get off and walk. however, today i thought i'd be sensible and made my first ever (in 10 years of cycling) foray onto the granny ring, spun all the way up the hill, and at the top, the gradient of the hill brought me to a stop before i was planning on stopping, resulting in me falling wildly to the left. thankfully it was into a grass verge, and noone was around to see. and the payoff for that hateful hill is a 50km/h descent down the other side :)

Once you have used SPD's you will never go back to trainers !

I found, shortly after going to SPD's my pedaling technique improved. I can now travel much faster and for longer.
