Intensity and HR for a long weekend ride!

What sort of intensity and % of heart rate do you ride at on a long weekend ride to build your base fitness level to start improving on times, climbing etc. i find at the moment i push really hard and am out of breath for the majority of the ride! :oops:

long rides at level 2 were the accepted minimum when I used a HRM a few years ago. At level 2 effort you should be breathing deeply, but not heavily - if that makes sense. I always set my HRM alarm to go off when it dropped below 150, but you would need to calculate your own limits based on your max HR.....0
