Given that VandeVelde was so good last year and was 8th this year despite his horrible crash, if Wiggins really is this good on GC, he and Wiggins could be the Schlecks of 2010. What a race it will be!

VandeVelde + Wiggins
vs
Armstrong + Leipheimer + Kloden(?)
vs
Schleck + Schleck
vs
Contador + ?
vs
Sastre
vs
Menchov
vs
Kreuziger
vs
?

The problem is I don't know if Wiggins (as much as I think he is class) will ever repeat this. I hope he does, I hope its not just the route or the fact he was something of a surprise to the top guys but I think they all know that riders like frank and andy, contador or even sastre can really put the hurt on him on big or cumulative climbs. While he could stick with the majority or ahead on steady climbs the kinds of attacks the top climbers making (making constant none tempo riding attacks) will distance him. I am not sure but VdV might be a better bet for GC and brad seen as more his no1 support in future.

VdV and Wiggo can't really be compared with the likes of sastre, schlecks or contador in the mountains as they lack that ability to attack and put the hurt on people on climbs (though maybe they could develop that) in the same way. However they have the ability to timetrial well that helps their GC cause. I think if the route takes in more harsh mountain finishes maybe we see another test of brad. No doubt he has proved he could climb with the best of them this year but at no point did you see he could drop the likes of the schlecks or even armstrong bar glimmers into andorra

Keep your eye on him and the supporter with the swiss ( I think) flag - Obvioulsy not his first mosh pit ever!

Yes but if Wiggins really can ride like this next year, he and a health VV can protect/help each other just like the Schlecks. I'm not saying they're as good in the mountains as the Schlecks but with their MUCH better TT ability, they don't have to be.
