My Tricross weighs a flaming TON!

I thought it was dead lightweight - but this is coming from old-school bikes and more modern ones from the 'cheaper' end of the scale

After a fun 45 mins in my LBS handling bike-porn I've realised what a REALLY light bike is like. You can pick the damn' things up with one finger!

Okay - so it IS ideal as a commuter, but I REALLY want a road bike for weekend leisure rides now....

(Oh, and now I know why all the roadies go tearing past me :? )

KB has fallen to the siren call of that fickle mistress - The Road Bike.

A lone pervy CX voice in the wilderness - he railled against the coming of the new order continuing to play his
HAve you thought about a CX bike, Lance?

    card at every opportunity.

It is no shame that he has come to the drop barred / not made out of pig iron and scaffolding side.

    We should welcome him.

    Right after this.

SEE YOU WERE WRONG WRONG WRONG - ROAD BIKES ROCK - SAY IT - SAY IT AND TOUCH MY FINGERLESS MITTS IN SUPPLICATION
Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.

No surprises there. I don't really know why people bother buying the in-betweens.

Ha! you say that now - if you want to keep fooling yourself never use your roadie (when you buy one) to commute or you will have to ditch your CX ... promise! :)

My present commute precludes the use of a road bike. I used to use one but it took too much abuse from the route and was quickly dying an ignominious death.

So all you "he is a convert" types go can go stick that in yer collective pipe and smoke it

I WAS a dedicated roadie until I found the bike wasn't strong / flexible enough and found a much better bike to use was a CX - it still IS a much better bike to use.

It's just that I want to start leisure riding properly and a CX bike isn't suited to sole road use.

    So. Nuh. :P

Wrong! I'll wager that my carbon roadie is stronger than your CX. I can never understand why people perceive roadies as being "flimsy."
Light. Strong. Cheap. Pick two. Keith Bontrager

Anyway, welcome to the light. My boss has a Tricross Singlespeed and even that manages to weigh a ton.

It's ok Kieran, we all understand - we know that you fully intend to hang your new road bike on the wall for five days a week while you cycle to work on a lump of lead  .

But it's only a matter of time before you'll be cycling to work on your roadie, even if it is a longer route round :D

It's actually SHORTER and a little quicker - but it is a main and VERY busy road. I wouldn't want to cycle on it during the morning and evening rush hour.

Plus - any road bike I'm going to get is staying virginal 8) the only additions will be a saddle bag and computer

How much perceived weight difference would there be with rack and full panniers on the lighter bike?

My full panniers are quite heavy: Work clothes, rain gear, large packed lunch, tools etc...
