Hi going to Scotland next week with the family and I'm wondering if there are any good centres near Loch Lomond, I know the riding in Scotland is great but with the misses kids & dogs i'll only have time for a trip to a centre to improve my skills (ie try and get some skills) any one know of any nearby,
Thanks gillyboc.
It's a one horse town and somebody shot the horse,

Loch Lomond's quite central... Define "nearby" :) Fort William's about an hour and a half away... Bit far north for the 7 stanes, Glentress about 2 hours, I think it'd be closest. Drumlanrig is about as far. Carron Valley about an hour...

  • There's nothing right nearby Loch Lomond, unfortunately, but Carron Valley Mountainbike Trails are about 40 minutes away and are well worth the trip - I went on Friday and had a great time.

Let me know if you need a riding buddy, too. :)

Staying with partners dad near Erskin bridge, we have been to Fort William in the past but not to mountain bike is it worth the drive.

  • Never been up there, but I imagine it's worth it if you can spare a whole day.

It's a good few hours up there, though, and the roads are single carriageway, so you can end up getting stuck behind caravans and slow tourists at this time of year.

See my post about Cochno, five miles from Loch Lomond, in routes section. It's right above Erskine Bridge.

Ah, plus you're further down than I was thinking if you're near the bridge. Puts you closer to Drumlanrig and Glentress though, and still within striking distance of Carron Valley probably. Going south probably means you have to go further but the roads are better.

There's plenty of riding in the hills on the north side of the Clyde Valley. Just look at a map and go for it. You are allowed to ride pretty much anywhere up here.

I keep thinking it looks like fantastic riding ground, lots of steep slopes, trees, rocky faces etc... Only ever ridden through on the roads but it looks inviting
