Quick question for Scott Spark owners..

As per title, quick question for those lucky enough to own a Spark......

On the drive side of the bike, do you find that the chainstay bottoms out on the BB shell? (i.e. when the suspension is at full extension)

Just curious really - seriously considering a Spark, but the tolerances in this area look a little tight to me and it seems an awfully small bit of tube (the chainstay that is) to be taking regular impacts in that way.

Thanks in advance

No unwanted contacts on mine. However, I am not entirely sure what you are talking about, which is probably another way of answering your question.

similar to Tank Slapper, I have an 08 30 Spark and have not noticed anything, but i'm not entirely sure i understand your question either?

Thanks for the responses gents - greatly appreciated. Let me attempt to clarify....

Take a look at the pictures in this link:

    http://www.kudubikes.co.uk/cgi-bin/trol ... ARK10FRAME

Second picture down (showing the BB area) shows the downward slope of the chainstay (coming down form the pivot) and it looks very close to the top of the BB shell. Having seen Sparks it appears to be an equally close gap in real life. My quetion was, do the two ever touch?

I will investigate tonight and let you know, but i'm fairly sure they don't as i like to give it a good clean up and hope! I would have spotted any damage there

Plus, i've had it serviced and also replaced the BB earlier this year and my lbs did not mention anything

    No they do not touch.

£1199 for a 2008 10 frameset? Good price. Buy one before they go. The Ritchey seatpost is £110 on its own!

Yeah - great price - but too late already I'm afraid - the Kudu ones have gone :(

Although I have my eye on another one elsewhere at a good price  (but there's only one so I'm keeping quiet!)

Many thanks for the responses guys - I appreciate it

No problem at all in that department. To be honest, Scott would never produce and distribute a bike if it had such a problem?

Go and buy it and enjoy it - super fast bike up and down hills, plus very light

You can always check the action in a shop - ask someone to bounce on it and watch the movement?

Nah - it's an '08 bike that I managed to find hidden away - but with a few choice 09 bits (like metal tracloc lever etc). And a gentlemen never discusses money

Actually, and I know this may be sacriligous, but I'm not overly impressed so far

Still, early days though so we'll see....

seriously though sounds like you found a good bike there, i'm sure you'll enjoy it the more you get out on it, they are really good climber's.

Its literaly incredible. Today was the first day that i have ridden with a cycle computer after moving it from my new bike. Set a PB by nearly 3 minutes (from 52:06 to 49:48) and averaged 1.5kph faster than on my old hardtail race bike. Soooo happy!!! :D
  • I picked up a 08 Spark 30 last fall. So far so good. There is never any contact at the point you question.
The bike is light, the Trac loc out works great for climbing.
It does not have big suspension movement so some fast descents
on rocky and rooted tracks are a bit rough.
I'll be using it this week in the Trans-Rockies
    http://www.transrockies.com/trc/
I'll let you know how it hold up after the seven days epic.
The only caveat is that I am in the +100 class which means
my partner and I must both be 50 years old or older. I'm sure
the bike will have less issues than I will.
    Cheers
