Thinking about giving up...

I am writng this using only my left hand, since my right arm is in a cast - yesterday morning I was under general anaesthetic having my wrist wired back together after my most impressive accident so far.
Doing 30mph down a hill, a dog ran out in front of me and, well, you can picture the rest. (dog was fine, btw)
Dislocated the wrist and broke it in about five places.
All this about a year to the day since I fractured my elbow because of a dodgy mudguard.

I have 6-8 weeks in a cast to think about it, but seriously... am I going to get back on?

No don't give up. just take time to get well, enjoy the time off and then in 8 weeks get back on yer bike

The chap had a similar op on his hand a couple months back so was off his bike for a long stretch, friday he finally managed to get back on his bike and was like a kid in a sweet shop afterwards after having rediscovered the advanture of two wheels.

He does have to deal with two weeks off the bike now due to another op but for different reasons.

So take time, and then get back out there and rediscover the joy of cycling once you've recovered, you had an accident that could have happened to any of us so don't let that put you off

Get back on that bike. You've been a bit unlucky there.

+1 to the above. You've been really unlucky, but take your time to recover, and remember it could have been much worse....

You've made me scared. :o Think I might start walking the bike down the hills, and riding on the brakes so I don't exceed 15 mph.

Yep, these things happen, fella. In fact, a very similar thing happened to Jen J from here on the Isle of Wight earlier this year. B*ggered up her chances of competing in Double Ironman UK this year. She's not given up. :)

The Burghardt incident really puts me off buying what I think were Lightweights.

Thanks guys, this is the best support group! Fantastic youtube clips.
Ok, bike's in the garage after being taken home by one of my housemates, but I'm going to pluck up the courage to have a look at it tomorrow and give it a little cuddle.
Maybe I can spend my 8 weeks slowly and one-handedly fixing, cleaning and tuning it up.

Do you know who the dog belongs to? If so sue the owner for the injuries it caused you and damage to your bike.

Or alternatively, dont and chalk it down to bad luck and look forward to the day your back on the bike.
