A motorbike racing friend of mine used to sit a womens sanitary towel (clean!) between his forehead and the lining of the helmet to catch sweat. Seriously.

I know this won't help you much, but any excuse to mock him has to be exploited.

I wear a Nadal style sweatband underneath on hot days.

    :lol::lol: to the point :P

I just carry a roll of kleenex velvet in my backpack and tear bits off when I stop for drinks to wipe my brow and clean my glasses. If it gets into my eyes, I tend to stop asap to do it, but everyone will have their own way.

On hot days I wear a Buff under my helmet, stops all the sweat running down my face and on my glasses, great bit of kit.

If you're getting sweat from under helmet in your eyes...oh, I see what you mean now...

Seriously, try a cotton bandana. As long as your helmet has an adjustable harness you should be able to fit one under it.

You can get thin roadie style headbands that do work - that's what i use when its really hot and I'm doing an all dayer. Anything absorbant should do the trick really.

Usually just wipe it away with the "snot wipe" part of my gloves.

Haven't yet worked out the best way to do it, but its always worse when raining, eyes start to sting alot, although mainly when not at a high speed. if I wear a hood to stop the rain then the glasses steam up catch 22 situation. perhaps an umbrella ontop of my helmet?

My helmet has things that absorb sweat. I wouldn`t reccommend a cotton bandana, they make your head very hot.

Au contraire. It actually acts as a radiator and helps to cool you down - as the fabric gets wet, and air passes over it, it creates a cooling effect.

I've been using one for years and I've never overheated. I suffer particularly badly with hyperperspiration and I'm very susceptible to heatstroke so I wouldn't use something that would cause me to overheat!!

bandana works for me although if it is very hot it doesn't help with cooling.

If i need it a lightweight narrow absorbent headband placed just above the eyebrows works as it catches the sweat drops running down from the forehead. If it becomes soaked and doesn't absorb any more then the droplets usually disperse around the top lip of the band and fall anywhere except in my eyes.

Buff works pretty well and doesn't really make your head any hotter.

Maybe it was the fact that it got so wet and sweaty I didn`t like, I only used it once to keep insects from biting my head then I got a polyester one that doesn`t get sweaty.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

If you can bring yourself to doit, cut the buff down to use maybe a quarter of it's length.

If you use the whole thing it can get a bit warm on warmer days / rides - use the short bit on warmer days and the longer bit on cooler days.

I wouldn't use any non-technical fabric to soak up the sweat - something cotton for instance is just gonna hold the sweat in the material next to the skin and possibly cause it to chafe your forehead. Also very cold and clammy if you stop for a break.

  • Ok so my comment wont stop the sweat but if the salt in the sweat is irritating your eyes, then suncream can help - when you wipe off the sweat, your skin wont get sore and dried out! Makes a big difference for me anyway :D
