Knee pain

I'm getting awful pain in my left knee after a couple of hours riding. I'm guessing it could be my shoe/cleat/pedal alignment that's not right. Has anyone suffered with this? And any fixes? I'm not 100% sure what the correct position for your feet is on the pedal?

THanks for the link, i've had a search around and think my first port of call might be to buy floating cleats, as I dont think mine are (standard metal ones that came with my bike)

I've found some on Wiggle, either Shimano SPD SL Cleats that have 6 degrees of float or Look Delta Cleats that have 9 degrees of float.

Has anyone experienced these in relation to standard cleats? They're meant to encourage natural joint movement.
