Handle bar adjustment help needed!

I have recently purchased a Decathlon rock rider 5.3, I was having difficulties in terms of the size of the bike and comfort. I got some advice on this forum and it was to adjust the handle bars as I was complaining they were too low for me. I phoned up the store and I was told not to adjust the bars as it would affect the suspension and the bike is not designed for this. Due to the position of the bike all my weight is on the handle bars (kneeling forward) and it gets uncomfortable. Is it easy to move the seat back and adjust the handle bars? or any other advice for me?

You need to take the bike back to the store and get it set up right.
Or get the next size up. Which is what I think you need. Take it back and demo the next size up, try the 5.2 if need be.
You are wasting time and the longer you leave it the harder it will be to exchange.
As it stands now the salesman didn't do his job properly and relied on your bike ignorance.0 -
Do you have flat or riser bars? Flat no adjustment will make any difference, riser the angle at which you set the bars affects how much sweep and uplift there is where you grip them.
Adjusting the bars won't affect the supension as such, just how the bike feels and handles, they're totally different things. It does sound like the bars are too low seat too high combo, and if you can't get the adjustment right you may need a larger size as recommended above.0 -
This is ongoing, HJD.
The salesman didn't do his job properly and let him walk out of the store with a bike that a) doesn't fit b) needs adjusting properly. Probably a)
It's now been over a week since he's had it and he's been out on the bike quite a few times. If he doesn't take the bike back to decathlon very soon and get it fitted / adjusted properly or get the next size up then he's going to waste £300.

I took the bike to the shop today, they said they could do nothing about it, as it was not a mechanical issue rather a comfort one. So I will just have to get use to the bike.0

enzofan - It all depends how hard you push them and how hard you state your case and how much of a pain in the arse you are prepared to be about this. I get the feeling you're not stating your case at all well and are taking what they say lying down with no resistance to your manner.
Contact the branch manager and speak to somebody who deals with complaints and explain your case very clearly and tell them you are not happy with the initial sale as you relied on the salesman's advice that a large would be ok - and wasn't given an opportunity to try an XL as there were none in stock (the fact that you could have tried a 5.2 XL is neither here or there). Tell them you have a bike that you aren't happy with and would like an XL.0 -
enzofan - I've spoken to Decathlon (Stockport) customer services this morning (I need another bottle cage and the only one that fits my bottle is stocked by them).
The CS manager told me in no uncertain terms that at that branch - and as far as she's concerned it's nationwide store policy - you could return the bike and exchange it for an extra large and it doesn't matter if it's been over a week.
She said you need to be assertive and speak to the cycle department manager and take all your documentation (including receipt obviously) in with you and say you want to exchange it for an XL. And if need be speak to the store manager.
Now that's direct from Decathlon Customer Services Stockport.0 -
Thanks for that mate, I did have a word with them but they basically said that I cant return the bike as it was clearly used. I am starting to get use to the bike now, although it is not perfect I am a lot more comfortable on it than before. I have taken off the straps on the peddles which where annoying but the problem is the peddles are very small. I have an old bike with larger ones I am thinking of swapping them.0

That's not true though and you need to speak to the store manager. You can get it exchanged, Stockport customer services manager told me that this morning - you just need to be assertive and push your case!0
