Anyone want to suggest a good D lock for my commuter and a good cable style lock for my mtb in the shed?

I lost my keys whilst drunk and now need to replace them both.

Kryptonite D-Locks are good. Well at least my bike's never been nicked whils locked with one. Heavy feckers though.

No such thing as a good cable lock really. They can all be cut like cheese with tools that could be easily carried into your shed (if not already found there).

I have an Abus Granit 54 which secures my bike in the garage:

I'm inclined to agree. Bought a Series 2 (under £20 at Parker) after searching these forums, online reviews and weighing up cost, size etc. I didn't think the Series 4 or New York ranges were worth it for me. However, if you lock and leave your bike in a busy, theft-prone area you might think differently. Bikeradar's Buyer's Guide might be a good place to start.

Some internal dimensions & weights for some Kryptonite models, in case it's useful:

    Evolution Mini: 3.25 x 5.5", 730g
    Evolution S4: 4 x 9", 1700g
    Evolution S4 LS (long shackle): 4" x 11.5", 1860g
    Series 2 Std: 4 x 9", 1300g
    Series 2 ATB: 5 x 9"

If you really want a cable locks the only ones even worth considering are those with armoured segments. Although they will never be as good as a d-lock if it makes the difference between risking it and locking it then it's worthwhile. The best lock in the world is no use if you leave it at home.
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.

I have a Trelock BS610 bought from Bike24.com - yes it is heavy but one survived both being chewed with a light set of cutters and a forcing jack attempt when they gave up. The bike was undamaged so I treated myself to a new lock of course.
