Sorry if this has come up before, but did anyone see Wiggo's eliptical crank in yesterdays TT? I didn't know such things even existed!

Does anyone know the benefits of these? I guess it helps smooth out the dead zones in the pedal range.

lol, sorry I actually mean chainring not crank, which in some parts of the word, having an elliptical crank may well be slang for something, or even a reason to see the doctor!

The entire Cervelo team use eliptical chainrings (Q-Rings). The one Wiggins uses is just a bit more obvious.

old idea that comes round every few years, normally rotated a chunk.

Shimano made the biopace rings in the later 80's early 90's if i remember correctly.

my dad had the biopace rings on his old dawes bike from the late 80s, i read on the rotor qring site they reduce lactic acid and increase power output. i cant see how, but thats the claim theyre making.

Sheesh, easy tiger. Who's talking about racing? I'm just interested if anyone knows about non-round chain-rings.

    Easy?

    What for asking a question?
Cake Stop moved to commuting, so its not unreasonable to know if racing is moving to cake stop is it?

I'll run my queries by you in future shall I to get your approval before I post them

haha was that a joke? The chain will fall off.

It's a load of rubbish anyway, never been proven to improve power.

Wiggo's TT performance was not as good as expected was it? So perhaps the eliptical chainring was not a succsses.

i was there when he won this here's beaumont trophy ( one of the premier callenders in the north east not long before the tour )

we were mooching around the race hq's and there he was with his wife and kids in a very flash bmw... we went over for some photo's and got him to sign some stuff ( he's a top bloke )

i had a real good look at the rings on his bike and they are very radicly shapped, very much like a rectangle

but he climbed up the ryals in the big ring!!! more than one time, so they must work...
