Hard tails...

Morning guys,
I have an 07' Rockhopper, that over the years i have upgraded to full XT running gear, and a new set of wheels.
I am doing a lot more cycling that i used to (100 miles a week) and i am looking into another hardtail.
I am particularly interested in the Stumpjumper HT Expert.
I mostly ride cross country and the odd few journeys into work on the road.
I have been told by several people that the Rockhopper is a 'recreational' bike and that the Stumpy HT Expert is a lot more extreme in terms of riding position etc.
I am 6ft 2" with a 32" inside leg. The Rockhopper i own is 21".
I have read that a 19" Stumpy is big enough for me, due to completely different geometry. Is this the case? I understand that there are no 21" top end stumpys left this year. I just don't want to fool myself into thinking that the 19" fits, when it doesn't!
There is also a Cannondale Taurine 3 at a very similar price point and spec that i may well look at.
I just wondered about peoples thoughts on these bikes.
All the best,
Graham

Do you have a local Spesh stockist? You really need to try one out to be 100% sure.
ps - the Rockhopper is a more-than-capable XC bike though. It wasn't that long ago that the Epic used the M4 frame now found on the Rockhopper.0 -
Have you thought about going for a 29" wheeled bike?0

Yeah, I did a fair amount of xc racing on a rockhopper. But the stumpy wouldve been faster.
Try and go down to a specialized retailer, they should be more then happy to let you have a go on whatever stumpy they have in.
Although if you were going to sell the rockhopper, you could look at stripping it down, buying a stumpy frame, then transfering the stuff on to the stumpy.0 -

I'm 6ft and ride a 19" stumpy and it suits me perfectly!2011 Yeti ASR5 carbon: http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/5817307/

I am also 6ft and ride a 19" Stumpy HT. But then height isn't the only thing is it. For one thing, I'm built like a monkey.0

I agree with trying them out - though the geometry of the two is nigh on identical.
The 21 inch Hopper has a 70 degree head angle, 73 degree seat angle, 615mm top tube and 1127mm wheelbase.
The 21 inch Stumpy Comp has 70.5/73 degree angles, 615mm top tube and 1121mm wheelbase.
Both have 304mm BB height.
So what the people told you is way off!0
