Hi all,

I had the chance to be invited to the Tour de France yesterday as a guest of a guest of Bernard Hinault. He's a family friend of my friend. I got to meet him and other retired riders like Jalabert and Vasseur, so quite a special day at the Tour.

I spent some time around the tour village, the warm-up area and the departure ramp, and some pictures.

It's amazing how small the Dauphine Libere is compared to the Tour de France.

Cheers, Russell

Excellent Pics. What kit you using?
.. who said that, internet forum people ?
  • Thanks, guys.

I use a Canon 20d, with three lenses: Canon 10-22mm, Canon 24-70mm 2.8L and the Canon 70-200mm 2.8L. The camera body is getting on a bit, but the results are fine. I'm waiting for Canon to catch Nikon on their ISO performance before I upgrade but the lenses will last for years.

    Cheers, Russell

Nice. Cyclingnews have lots of Russell's pictures:

Honestly Russell, you're a mate of Hinault, visit the Tour village, live in Grenoble and manage to ride loads of great events in the Alps. Tell me something bad about yourself to calm my jealousy

Great photos, Russell. First time I've ever noticed Hinault in glasses.

And so that’s what Jacques Michaud looks like – I’ve ridden his cyclosportive at Annemasse/Gaillard. It included the Colombiere, the Joux-Plan and a couple of smaller cols.
A quality T-shirt, a tombola (I won two prizes, each worth about 25 euro) and a great multi-course meal with lots of wine were all included in the very reasonable entry fee.
it sadly hasn’t taken place the last 3-4-5 years.

Getting good lenses are like upgrading your wheels on the bike.

Great shot of Franco and his trademark mop.
