Can anyone else not hear Christophe Lemevel's name without singing it to the tune of you can ring my bell? I know I can't and now neither can my wife 8)

    Vladimir Karpets every time!

And Mark Cavendish, if it's shouted out at the end of a sprint victory by an Italian commentator!

If you like Flandes, Roubaix or Eroica, you would like GP Canal de Castilla, www.gpcanaldecastilla.com
  • My only disappointment with Vladimir Karpets is that he doesn't have Franco Pellizotti's hair. He would be THE true all-rounder if he did..

The Flemish ones are the best really:

    Bert Oosterbosch
    Adri Van Der Poel
    Eric Vanderaerden

but Thierry Claveyrolat rolls off the tongue nicely as well. Just saying it makes me want a pastis.

Possibly the first cycling hippo - Hippolyte Aucouturier
    Joop Zoetemelk
Was it Duffield or Ligett that uttered the immortal phrase "It's curtains for Karpets"?

Dutch rather than Flemish Jean-Paul van Poppel.

Hopefully we'll soon see more of his son, the brilliantly named - Boy van Poppel

While I like all of the above, I'd have to go into Downhill MTB for my current favorite: Nick Beer.

    The puns are simply endless.

A whole host of fantastic names on the Clasica San Sebastian start list, current favourite being:

    Staf SCHEIRLINCKX.

Also, a rare Finnish name in the Peleton, held the polka dot for a while this year: Jussi Veikkanen!

    speed and simplicity:
    Peter Post
    Jan Raas

    But then..
    Hubert Hutsebaut
    Martin Kokkelkoren

I remember an interview with Marino lejaretta, where he said that when he was a kid he thought he would never succeed, because 'cyclists just aren't called Lejaretta', cyclists are called Bahamontes or Ocana. Didn't hold him back in the end though...
