If it looks like new then you only took it for a test ride...I reckon the LBS will be fine with a swap.

At the worst they could insist you keep the tyres and tubes, but I suspect they'll be very accommodating given that they will be relieving you of a further wad of cash

Tbh I don't think it's cheeky in the slightest ... as long as you don't go in with an attitude of 'I expect you to change this'. Put yourself in their shoes, if a customer asks you if you'd consider it you wouldn't take offence.

Grazy - my LBS took a bike back two MONTHS after we bought it with a full refund.

It was mis-sold to us - a Globe IG8 hybrid that was meant to have the same gear range as an MTB (it had 8 speed hub gears) and good brakes - it was utter cack but took several rides to confirm it.

Sounds like your LBS isn't working hard enough - try elsewhere.

Well i think the frame might be too big for me by the looks of things so i might be able to take it back on those grounds and see if anywhere else hase an elite in stock on a smaller frame

Mis sold how??? Surley you saw the hub gears when you picked it up and chose it?
We get so many customer trying to return bikes which they have bought and used for a holiday etc, then decide they don't need it as its served its purpose.
Do you take a new car back after a few weeks if its not quite big enough or want your old house back if the new one has a sink that is not quite the wrong height?

Do your research before you buy, don't be afraid to stay a while in the shop while you try different models to make sure you feel comfortable.

Just remember everytime you make a mistake and buy the wrong bike and expect a refund it will push the shop prices up as they will lose money on it.
  • You don't ask you don't get and that applies more than anywhere at LBS's. I found that out when negotiating the part ex of one of my bikes for a new set of wheels on another of my bikes. They said one amount, I asked for another and I got it with little justification! Plenty more deals ever since too. They know the value of repeat business and they know a good customer knows the value of a good LBS.

Show your face regularly, get your current bike trimmed up regularly and ask them about part-ex deals when the bike comes onto stock if you can't get it anywhere with a better deal beforehand. People are more wiling than you think.

Really cos as my bike is atm the saddle isn't quite as high as the bars will this have much of an impact cos when i was at the shop they said to me it's more of the length that is important rather than the saddle height.

Well, how much to you you think wearing the wrong size running shoes, 1 size too big/too small, would affect your ability to run a marathon?

Within limits you can change stems, handlebar height and angle and adjust saddle position, but these are small adjustments. My 3 bikes are 55cm, 56cm and 57cm size and I've managed to do it, but I'm not sure I'd want to go down to a 54cm and I doubt I could successfully adapt a 58cm frame to suit me.
'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....
