Jerseys, matching socks and shorts, frame colours

Often wondered... presentation jerseys - do ASO have a number of these in a big box out back already logo'd up for each team? Or do they have a little man with a printing machine tucked away behind the podium?

Apart from presentation jerseys fastening like a straightjacket - classification jerseys on the road are very different. The team logos on presentation jerseys are boxed off whereas the riding jerseys look more like the team shirt logos. Do teams have to have them made up before the race? Or do ASO make them up? In advance or night before?

Then there is this Mario Cippolini inspired 'matching everything' fashion of having green glasses, helmet, gloves, shorts and socks, and in some cases matching frame colours.... okay some teams can probably predict having a specific jersey wearer so can plan ahead. But what about rank outsiders - what do teams do then? Do mechanics work through the night spray painting frames? Do equipment manufacturers turn up in the morning with a suitcase of polka dot gloves for example? Cavendish got greener as his time in green went on; initially just a green jersey and glasses, then a few days later out came a green helmet and green shorts.

If teams have to prepare all this stuff in advance what happens to the kit they don't use? Saxo Bank yellow jersey anyone? Skil Shimano green jersey ? Off to the incinerator, or do the back room staff make a fortune on ebay with it?
