Rear suspension rebound

I've just recently bought myself a Specialised FSR XC Expert, which has the X Fusion rear suspension. I'm ok about setting it up for the sag etc, but I've found that when I'm riding I naturally keep adjusting the rebound depending on if I'm going up or downhill whilst I'm still riding. Is this ok to do this? Or should I be stopping and shifting my weight off whilst doing this?

I would ask why you are adjusting it?

Same here. Why would you need to adjust rebound level so often?
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

Do you mean the lockout/pedal platform lever? (not sure which one that shock has) If so, it's fine to adjust it on the move. If you mean the rebound dial...why? That's pretty much set and forget.

It's the rebound lever I was adjusting. I set the sag level fine, but just found that when I stood up to do a short sprint uphill the suspension was sapping too much of my pedal stroke. I simply set it to zero before the uphills and then reset it to my sag level again after.
Is it better just to leave this then?

Does the shock have a seperate compression damper/lockout?

Here is a pic I've just taken... basically I've just been adjusting the Blue rebound lever so far

You have lockout lever - use that on the climbs and keep the rebound the same.

Ah ok, cheers supersonic. I'm most definitely a newb at this rear suspension lark!! Definitely makes for a quicker ride downhill though

The rebound adjustment is made with the RED disc.
Lockout to open is selected with the BLUE lever

Which one have you been fiddling with?

It's the Blue lever I've used, like you say to lock out the rebound when sprinting uphill. Took the idiot approach today and read the confusing instruction book and think I have it set up pretty good now.
Going downhill over bumps and drop offs the rebound feels pretty smooth in its action and no jerky bounces so a few more rides to tweak it and I should be good.

    Cheers for your comments guys.

Tecyhnically the lockout locks out compression rather than rebound - if it is locked out then it does not compress, and therefore no rebound.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.

  • you should never really have to adjust the rebound once you have it set correctly (red dial)

the blue leaver is there simply to lock out the shock, on this model, it provides no real adjustment of the compression damping.

I to lock out the shock 75% of the time, just knock it open on fast down hills.
