A gentle introduction to riding in Europe

Lay ho ma!

I'm toying with the idea of doing a bit of riding in Europe next summer. However, I'm not the youngest or fittest so would appreciate some advice. I'm looking for somewhere with mountains which are suitable for some pleasant but not too challenging riding. Paul Sherwin just said Switzerland has generally more gentle climbs - is this true? Also, I would need to hire a bike; can anyone recommend a company in the particular area?

Cheers,
Steve

    Hi Steve,

The area which contains Mont Ventoux is pretty good. Lots of 6-15km long climbs with a variety of gradients. The bonus is that there are also flatter options for your "easy" days.

Not sure if you're touring or looking to have a central base, but Craig & Vicky at veloventoux can sort just about anything out for you.

Lots of lumpy bits in France, Massif Central for example.
Just watch out, for them Frenchies drive on the wrong side fo the road!
