    And apply frequently.

Plus, learn to breathe through your nose, or gritted teeth. I learned the hard way

Midges don't bother you so much while on the move, more so when you stop. Horseflies can be a major pain though.

They don't like direct sun so start praying for a heatwave 8)
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

"Shoo" is made in Argyll, where the midges are unbelievable. It works extremely well against the little critters

Wot he said. You can get it online. Effective where Jungle Formula fails.

Also, in case the little beggars get you unawares, take a tube of E45 itch cream and apply BEFORE scratching the bites.

I picked up between 200 and 300 bites in one morning on the Trossachs Ton this year - my legs looked as though I had chicken pox. I spread E45 on them daily for about three days and they faded without torturing me.

As said above, Skin so soft does the job well. I was up near Glasgow last year with the army and the mozzies were horrible, all the locals were using the skin so soft and didnt seem to have any problems!

Failing that just get something with DEET in it. Travel/trekking shops (Blacks/Millets and the like) normally have loads. There are rumors that the 100% DEET stuff actually melts your skin but I used it by the bucket loads for a month when trekking in Costa Rica and never had a problem....although it does melt plastic so don't get it on you shades!

Just remember if you're cycling or doing and activity thats going to make you sweat, don't apply it above your eyes or it may start to sting!

Marmite diet but you have to start it a couple of weeks before you go - Avon Skin so Soft works very well - Deet is good but it damages Goretex so don't get it near your waterproofs

Skin So Soft - and remember to put it in your hair as well. Used it at a 3 day music festival in Argyll two years ago - worked a treat, and all my wrinkles disappeared... Was actually ideal for a three day weekend with limited washing facilities - made me feel relatively clean for some reason.
