Hi, I was just wondering if any kind soul would be willing to help on that horrible which bike question. I've read the FAQ's and used the search function for advice on the bikes but have either come up short or on old models.
The 3 models I have currently short listed are
http://www.evanscycles.com/products-comparison I'll check see if this link works. but they are
Scott aspect 55 @ £350
GT avalanche 3.0 Disc @ £340
Specialized hardrock sport disc @ £360
Now the important bit; I'm looking at using the bike for bridleways, delamere forest tracks and beginner XC with a more downhill than uphill idea (if i can find a buddy) budget is £400 max
Thanks in advance and kind regards
Iain

My mate has a Hardrock Disc Pro, he's chuffed to bits with it.
I think it's an excellent bike, esp for that money
Its used mostly on bridleways and bits of the Peak DistrictRichard

That is a sport though, and not very good value.
I'd be looking at the Carrera and Decathlons.0 -
I have a Spesh Hardrock and use it for light DH runs and its stodd up very well to the abuse. I also ride trail centres / bridleways a fair bit and I've not had any major problems. Yes its not as light as some but then maybe its stronger e.g. for the miniDH runs.My Website - Trail Centre info for the UK: MTB Trail Time0

Ok thanks all for the advice and thoughts, went down to the local shop today (birkenhead cycles) who said they had a Genesis Core 00 @ £400 http://www.birkenheadcycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b29s2p782 Is it good or should I stick with the above of say a specialized?
Thanks again

Excellent spec - Genesis really know how to build a good bike and stretch that budget.
Rebound adjustable fork, good crank, decfent brakes, great wheels. Was good at 500 quid.0
