shimano ultegra indexing problems

i had stright bars on my road bike and have just put drops with ultegra 9 speed,the indexing was fine with the rapid fire ,the ultegra shifters are quiet old about 6 years could it be that the shifter may be worn out
going downhill slowly

    im thinking of trying a tiagra right hand lever that may work !
